Overview of Services

CHCO CTRC CORE Laboratory:

The CHCO CTRC Core Laboratory is located at Children's Hospital Colorado. The laboratory was established in 1962. At that time, it was one of only nine Pediatric Core Labs in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) program. Now, as part of the Colorado Clinical Translational Sciences Institues (CCTSI) the laboratory provides both pediatric and adult laboratory analysis for the Anschutz Medical Campus, researchers throughout the United States and the world, as well as industry. As a laboratory of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) as division of the NIH, the charge for testing is nonprofit, resulting in lower pricing for research protocols. The laboratory is staffed by 6 full-time Professional Research Assistants, all of whom are either certified medical technologists or eligible. The laboratory analyzes a broad spectrum of sample types (serum, plasma, urine, Sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, trachial aspirates, etc.) using a large menu of highly complex assays for IRB-approved protocols. Some of the tests available from the menu include: Inflammatory Mediators, Cytokines and Chemokines, Bone Metabolism Markers, Proteins, Lipids, Fat-Soluble Vitamins, and Antioxidants. These assays utilize technologies, such as Enzyme and Radioimmunoassay, Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Nephelometry, Chemilluminescence, and the Luminex xMAP technology. Additionally the laboratory performs sputum homogenization, cell counts, and differentials. The laboraotry maintains an extensive quality control and quality assurance program. The UCD CHCO CTRC Core Laboratory is accredited through CAP (Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Patholigists) and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act).

UCH CTRC CORE Laboratory:

The University of Colorado Hospital Clinical & Translational Research Center (UCH-CTRC) CORE Laboratory Service Center is a full-service, clinical chemistry laboratory which provides a wide range of analytical testing services to clinical and basic science researchers on a fee-for-service basis.  The UCH-CTRC CORE laboratory was established in 1961 and specializes in routine and special chemistry analyses including complex and esoteric testing; development of new analytical tests and custom panels to fit the needs of individual researchers; innovative methodologies including Magnetic Bead Multiplexing Technology (Luminex xMAP), HPLC, ELISA, RIA, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, enzymatic and colorimetric determinations.  The UCH CTRC CORE Laboratory is located at the University of Colorado Hospital in the Leprino Building on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The UCH-CTRC CORE Laboratory is CAP and CLIA accredited and provides trained personnel, reagents, equipment and QC capabilities to conduct assays for research studies.  All services are provided as fee-for-service, resources and rates are highly subsidized for trainees, junior faculty and federally funded research.
